This! One

The following post is rated 18+O for scenes of disturbing physical deformities and drug intake.

Introducing a new feature to the ESF: this! A weekly(?) feature giving videos and stories that need a signal boost to inform people about certain things or events going on around this great blue ball of ours.

In this first edition of this!, comes "Siberia: Krokodil Tears", from New York-based VICE.

THIS WEEK, WE CELEBRATE ONE YEAR OF UNIVERSITY PRESS.

Between us, I'm surprised that it's gone this long (if you ignore the fact I haven't published since July.)

North to Denton: A PhotoJournal - Part One

Let's start this post off right. The frick is Denton at?

It's 40 miles north of the Dallas/Fort Worth metro area. Right at the border between metropolitan and rural North Texas.

Georgia, Part VI

Making my way to Texas, driving fast, the sun's down, and I'm homebound

"It says it's here, but it's not."

Downtown

Alyssa thought it would be great to go out and explore what we could in Columbus for the short time we were there. So around 9PM or so, we went out in search of any hookah bar in the city. She found one, close to the waterfront, in historic downtown Columbus.

Three Years of the ESF

Hey hey!
We gotta keep it going.

I have to say, if someone told me three years ago that I would: A) have a blog; B) lose a friend; C) keep said blog for three years, I probably would have blown you off.

But hey, here we are, three years later, and still going strong.

It's strange to note how I have changed in the last three years, including how my insights on things and what I've experienced have also gone with it. Being exposed to different people and exploring their worlds has helped me look beyond myself, into something different.

And when it comes to crediting with the "foundation" of my "foundation", a little of it goes to The Archenemy. I mean, if it wasn't for our misunderstanding about a visit to Mexico, I probably wouldn't have the ESF, although I'd probably have a blog, but with some out-of-place name.

I also have to thank those who stumble on this ship-- shit, at least it floats.

And really, isn't that the most important thing in life?

I think it is. Having awesome mac and cheese is a good goal, too.

So welcome to the ESF, and thanks for reading this little modest piece of three years of my "foundation".

Georgia, Part IV

"That little bastard."

Sweet Georgia

Crossing over the Chattahoochee to Columbus made me anxious as fuck.

I realized that as we got closer to their home, I would have to meet the step-siblings of Alyssa. From what she told me in Texas, I was more than a little apprehensive of how they'd react to me.

Georgia, Pt. III

After falling asleep during the last forty miles of Mississippi, I awoke later on to Alabama.

"Shortcut"

Exiting the interstate some distance into Alabama, we drove off the interstate onto Alabama 17, a two-lane highway that led through the small town of York (which actually looked really quaint). To pass the time, Alyssa and I started watching, at her insistence, Finding Nemo, a film which I've actually never watched fully through.

Georgia, Pt. II

As we slowly made our way through East Texas, the music being piped in through the car's satellite radio got to Alyssa and her sister.

(East) Texas... cont'd

I fell asleep some 15 miles into Kaufman County.

I awoke an hour later, around 9 AM, to the car slowing down and coming to a stop. I heard Gloria talking, and checking on the kids in the back. When it came my turn to be visually-analyzed, she called out my name.

"Eddie-wedy... Eddie-wedy..."

UP XLI-B

It's so good to be back, guys.

I've been away for two weeks, and that explains the lack of any activity. Now, the blog has had it's look updated, and everything seems on track. And now, for a mid-week edition of University Press.

Normal publishing schedule back on, guys. :)

Georgia, Pt. I

One of my longest friendships has been with this girl named Alyssa, and her on-and-off again boyfriend of four years, Reynaldo.

I met them both during my freshman year in high school, where a little less weird version of me egged on of them on to get with the other. I believe it was Rey to her, but so much time has passed, I can't quite recall. As their relationship blossomed, so did my friendship with them. Things got much closer during my junior year, when I had classes with both of them.

UP XXXVII

Hey look, another Saturday.
I think the NSA has this in their possession
and I have yet to press 'PUBLISH'

Well, if things go the way the President wants them to go, arms from the U.S. will soon be given to the rebels to fight their war against the Assad regime. An important question arises, though. If Saudi Arabia and Qatar already provide arms, then what good will US arms do?

UP XXXVI

Well, another week, another megabyte of data to be housed in Utah.

I read about the NSA thing in the March edition of Wired last year, and was very disturbed that my information would be gathered like fish at a stream, stored, and analyzed for god-knows-what.

UP XXXV

This week has been one of lighter content, although to those in Oklahoma and Missouri, it's a horrible ending to a bad week.

UP XXXIV

What a week, guys.

On Tuesday, tornadoes ravage Moore, the town that was heavily destroyed by a F-5 tornado back in 1999.

The Archenemy Cometh, Giveth, and Taketh Away

My friendship with M&C has turned very close.

We can be quite frank around each other and not be put off  by what we say. When they invited me out yesterday, I thought it'd be just another window-shopping trip. We'd look at the lamps and say, "Oh yeah, this lamp with that shade" or "This would go great in my room."

UP XXXIII

What a weekend. So heartfelt.

Tunnels

Tunneling your way to my heart

In early May, I got in touch with an old high school friend of mine, Blake.

After some computer repair, we got to talking, and he let me photograph him a few days later. Since then, we've been hanging out, and the day after the photo shoot, I went out with some of his friends.

Hero Flux

Rated 18-S for sexually-explicit content

This past Thursday, I did another practice shoot with Blake.

An hour into the shoot, his friend, whom I'll call "B", joined us and we left to a park. An hour-and-a-half later, with gnats and mosquitoes biting, we went back to Blake's.

UP XXXII

What a week, huh?

They found those girls in Cleveland, people are angry at the burial of the older Tsarnaev brother in Virginia, and a kid from a suburb in Dallas tells his teacher off?

UP XXXI

Another late one.

Finished this thing early for once, but I got sidetracked hanging out with friends late into the night.

Security Guard Josh V

THE FOLLOWING POST CONTAINS PARAPHRASING
AND MAY NOT ACCURATELY REFLECT WHAT WAS SAID

Around 7:30, I got a text from Mike and Cynthia wondering if I'd like to go to a park. Juggling their offer and someone else's I chose them.

They arrived promptly and we left around 8 PM, listening to a mix tape I had made with my stereo.

Security Guard Josh V: Epilogue

Enjoy this before you read...

You very might well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

In late January, I wrote about Security Guard Josh, a security guard at a local supermarket that looked a lot like my Josh. Of course, after seeing him for the first time in January, I didn't see him for about a month or so.

As The Onion said, "This week, Jesus."

Depending on where you live, it has just been a week full of shitty stories. Here in North Texas, plenty of bad things happened,  in concurrence with Boston.

UP XXVIII-B

An update on Boston

When I first heard about this yesterday afternoon around 2 PM Central Time, I didn't think much of it. Maybe someone had set-off fireworks or something to do about natural gas happened.

Mission

Links contained herein are NOT suitable for those under the age of 18.

Oh Adam!

A few months ago, I posted about this guy at first job who was a Mormon.

Showing actual genuine interest, I asked him a load of questions, whether or not could have annoyed him. We spoke for a while, and I absolutely loved learning about somebody else. Other people didn't take to well to my interest, but I haven't actually visited a temple. I will though, with two friends in tow.

After talking and noting a small degree of separation, I befriended him on Facebook. He sure "brought" it. Hahaha.

Dear Diary: Crême de la Crême

2010 was an awesome year.

I was bright-faced, and I was cool. Like Macklemore, but Hispanic.

Coming earlier than usual.

Take that CNN.

I have just been terrible on putting UP out lately. But today, I decided to do it early.

Edwardian Burlesque

It's not what I thought it was going to be.

Today is Friday, and usually, there are nice things to be found at yard sales.

Fisch

Procrastinations runs the ESF...

From March 22nd...

This past Friday, my dad wanted fish for dinner. So around 1 PM, we headed to this huge Asian market in the southern part of my town.

Fort Worth: A Public Transport Odyssey, Part III

Part three of FW:APTO

Now with a sandwich tucked in my duffle bag, I walked back to the platform from the Subway.

As I walked, there was now a gaggle of people waiting on the platform.

Fort Worth: A Public Transport Odyssey, Part II

Oh bro! BRO.

Part two of FW:APTO

After leaving the bus, I walked south on McKinley.

Fort Worth: A Public Transport Odyssey

Oh, wrong school bro.
Oh, wrong bus bro.

**Long post ahead**

One thing that I'll admit is good is public transportation. Anyone can ride it to get where they need to go.

UP XXVII: Saturday Evening Post

French kids by the door.

I really hate being late with this thing. Yesterday was much more hectic than I had planned and I didn't get back until 10.00. Needless to say, its here, albeit twenty-four hours late.

You may think that, but I couldn't possibly comment.

Two years ago, I posted this thing called Art from Facebook. It was something meant to get all the stuff I uploaded to Facebook to my blog, which was just a month old at the time.

How I Met Your Cigarette

From my Tumblr page

[A few weeks ago, I had run into my friends Mike and Cynthia in a Kroger supermarket near my house. I hadn't seen either of them since we graduated, so we made a dinner date. After our meal, we hung out a little bit, and ended up walking in front of a Buddhist temple near their home.]

Saturday Night Movie: Perks of Being a Wallflower

From March 1, 2013...
Procrastination rules at the ESF.

I was given the novel Perks of Being a Wallflower by my [ex-]friend Shelley in 2010.

It was the first time I had ever received anything from a friend, so I accepted it gracefully, and neglected to read it. She gave it to me in October 2009, but I didn't read it until Summer 2010. I felt very bad because she had poured thought into it and I didn't even bother to read it.

Changing your mind since 1997.

For Christmas 2010, Honda used a song to advertise their sales offer of 'holiday deals' to the American people. Some picked up on the song played, and went on the hunt.

I Dream of Aaron

A dream... that the person in question knows about.

The phenomena of me having erotic dreams about people around me has been going on since I was in the eighth grade. I won't say who they were about, but thinking about it now has lead me to ask some serious questions about myself.

Denton

Denton, I am inside of you.

"I've never ventured north of Denton. Let me tell you, it is RURAL. RURAL like cows out to pasture and roads with 45° grades."

As I grow older, I have the urge to go. To go and just look at the world around me.

Speed

This is a poetic entry.

Let's go to France. Vive la Liberte!

I mentioned Serge Gainsbourg back in 2011, and wrote on his love of puns. He used them extensively in his songs, very tongue-in-cheek.

Nachtfoto II

Photographs coming Friday

I will never again work with RAW files.

I understand that RAW files are the highest quality file you can get. You can work on them and get either JPEGs or TIFFs or PNGs out of them. But I just don't see the effort needed to be put into them.

Nachfoto

As you grow, you never stop learning.

For example, in the past year, I've learned all about ISO speeds.

Day and Age

Inspired by the Killers' 2008 album

"I'm just a stick in the mud. But now, the mud is drying, and I'm in danger of falling over."

That phrase was in a letter I wrote on March 1st.

I've always had a love for baking. It's like art. You take these raw ingredients (flour, eggs, sugar), and you turn them into a beautiful, nourishing thing. Bread, cookies, muffins, oatmeal brownies, etc.
